Racing Champion CHRISTINA NIELSEN
“I’m not a female who’s a sports car driver, I am a sports car driver who’s a female.”
Christina Nielsen is a international racing ROCK STAR! At just 26, she is a 2-time champion and has made history as a woman. In 2016 when she won the IMSA WeatherTech Championship, she became the first woman to ever win a major full-season sports car championship in North America and the success was repeated in 2017, which makes her the reigning champion.
Racing is her passion and motorsports has always been an integral part of her life. Her father, Lars Erik Nielsen, raced for many years. He raced at legendary events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring.
Working with brands such as Porsche, Mercedes AMG and Acura, she has been racing in high profile championships such as Le Mans, Porsche Carrera Cups in Germany, Middle East and USA, the IMSA Tudor Championship, Pirelli World Championship and ADAC GT Masters. These provided her with a great combination of sprint and long distance races, and she has already had a few 24-hour races under her belt.
I’ve been used to racing against men for all of my career and being the only female driver on the track creates a lot of attention from the media and spectators – but that doesn’t intimidate me. I want to compete on equal terms with the boys and most importantly of all, I want to beat them.
At end of the day, I am proud to be a female competing on such a high level, but most importantly, I am proud to be a driver who competes at that level. Her personal statement is about the fact that nothing, including your gender, should stop you from pursuing your dreams and doing what you want.
